It's your contention that Exxon and GM grease the palms of Amtrak in order to make them less efficient? You should go hang out in the Q thread, brother

I mean, it couldn't be that there is limited track availability, could it? No way. Must be a conspiracy.

I mean... why would the auto industry pay off Amtrak? I suppose it is possible GM is paying off “Smith and Sons Buggy Whip Co.”, too.

No need to “pay off” a transportation provider that hasn’t been competitive with your product since the late 1940s.

You can drive it for much less time. 8 easy with pit stops and a camera opportunity. I've been passenger in 5 hour runs.

I've taken Amtrak a few times in California...every time the fricking train was 5 hours late...had to make pit stops to let other trains pass..."we have a train coming in an hour, so we basically have to pull over and wait."

I took the Amtrak Coast Starlight from Salinas to L.A. and what should have taken 6 hours took 15 hours. 5 hours late, 4 hours sitting on the tracks at different stops.

It's not for commuters - just tourists...it's fun to ride along the Pacific Coast and go through Santa Barbara and Malibu alongside the Ocean but you have to have all day in the world and no pressing time constraints to be somewhere.

Train travel in America for the most part is like Cruise Ship...you're on the train as part of the vacation and not just to get somewhere.
