yes, you have a large sector of US citizens who fear change, regardless of whether or not that change is good or bad. So, there's your first problem.
Let society evolve; it will happen with or without your wants. Albeit, your sector can slow it down, but with technology, you'll lose the fight quicker than when status quo-ers could simply stop bills from passing into laws.
This is a new age of societal acceptance, much of it logical and scientifically backed. With any quick changes, you have to take the good with the bad. But, that's how it will work now. Changes will happen quicker and quicker, so we need people who can adapt in office. None of that means you give up your structure, but you have to be open to change.
