To answer your question: TO END THE frickING WAR!
It's the same reason the Allies marched into Berlin. Japan was not going to surrender. Both Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan committed massive human atrocities and the only way to stop that was unconditional surrender. You stupid arse is probably lost on the fact that it took TWO nuclear bombs to get Japan to quit! One obviously wasn't enough. The Japanese were so fanatical at that time, something like 20 years later, a lone Japanese soldier was found on Pacific island, still holding out because he never got the word that Japan had surrendered and the war was over. For fricks sake, Japanese pilots were volunteering to fly their planes into our ships! Much like the Hamas suicide bombers, except most of them are half-wit children who can't fathom what their handlers have in store for them. Even worse, those kid's own mothers celebrate their death, because they took out some innocent Isreali's just wanting to ride a bus, or go to a pizza place.
