I took an oath back in '69 to support and defend the constitution (America) that could have led to my demise.

I survived and have enjoyed many years since.

Taking a chance at this point wouldn't lead to much of a loss.

For my kids and grand kids? If I knew it would let my grand kids enjoy something similar to what I did I would shoot myself in the head.

It doesn't matter
We'll just print more money

There won't be any depression, so let the boomers roll the dice if they want to

So is aspirin. It killed Bruce Lee.

You totally missed the point. Should govt have the right to protect you from yourself? It's a yes or no question. If your answer is yes, then the fat person analogy is perfect. Fatness can kill you. The govt can prevent you from dying by putting you in jail on a restricted diet.

If the answer is 'no' then I can take up Russian Roulette if I want to. I own myself.

Ok? Asprin isn't a virus. Idk what your thought process was with that one.

Well I certainly didn't expect a poorly thought-out absolute would be your point, so I'll give you that. Of course it doesn't, and shouldn't have, a "right", in the sense of unequivocal authority under any circumstances; but there are already laws that mandate they protect you from yourself, if you may harm others in the process.
I.e. if you try to commit suicide by placing yourself in the middle of a busy intersection, the government has the right to detain you and commit you to a mental institution.
Another example would be the government madates you get a license to drive a car. You could harm others and yourself by not properly knowing how to operate the vehicle or traffic and safety laws.

Shelter in-place orders for this disease follow that same logic for everyone, including the elderly, in that that they are protecting you from yourself in getting the disease but are also protecting you from potentially spreading it to vulnerable people during your incubation period, before symptoms arise, if you do have it, or if you are asymptomatic.
This isn't a black and white issue.

I'm sure you don't.

You still don't understand the concept. Placing yourself in the middle of the street endangers the lives of others. They own themselves.

You just answered your own question and agreed with my premise. But you have no idea why.

This makes no fricking sense.

Dinner at Golden Corral at 4pm isn't going to keep America great.

Unfortunately here in Denton County we're under shelter-in-place effective tomorrow at midnight.

I live in Denton Co. Make sure to read the entire order. For instance, you are allowed to leave your home for drive thru food, grocery shopping, exercising in groups less than 6 ppl, etc.

Do you feel confident it's not as widespread as believed or do you think you're in good enough health to get by if you did catch it? Jw.

I’m 54 and a grandparent and I definitely think I would “whoop” it - usually. However, I came down with a chest (only) cold and raw throat around the second or third week of January, and have not been able to shake it. I finally went to my Dr (his PA) a couple of weeks ago and am still having symptoms. I say all this to say I don't know if the virus would get me or not. I usually walk long walks several times a week and work out on machine weights a couple of times and look and feel a lot younger than I am. But, having this pre-existing crap worries me. (I really think I may have had Covid but that’s a different story.)

Now, shifting gears, I’m in a position to shelter myself reasonably well, and I don’t think my life is more important than tanking the economy. Do I want to die, of course not. I ain’t near ready. But I told my wife this morning we CANT be completely shed of this thing before we get back rolling because we will be in a Great Depression . We need to get back to work within 2 weeks IMO, taking reasonable precautions. Life has risks; I don’t want to die, but there are bigger things at stake here than me.

Strict adherence to social distancing

That's a pipe dream. I tried it today and every time I kept my distance, someone walked in and filled the void I left open at the grocery store. The stores had signs everywhere reminding people of it, but zero fricks were given by anyone.

If this were ten to 20 years ago, when there were more of the Greatest around, the answer would have been a resounding yes.

what a condescending a-hole you are. No I don't. Not even slightly. Explain how I agree with you. In a detailed format. The government does have the right to protect you from yourself. Try not to cherry pick.
