think the issue is that the federal government is urging caution going forward (such as social distancing) while the President is urging people to take things into their own hands.

If you only see it as one way, that’s a pretty big logical barrier to yourself

No, I think he wants to tell people what they want to hear. He seeks adulation. He’s a populist at heart.

That can be a good thing, as that means he’s listening to the people.

What are you basing that claim on?
Be specific.

He is pretty bad at having a consistent message other than a few topics

Well, the President doesn't get the "luxury" of being responsible for addressing only the virus aspect or only the economic aspect or only one state/city. He obligated to address EVERY aspect and in connection with the entire country. And he doesn't enjoy the benefit of Monday morning quarterbacking all those gigantic tasks either....he's responsible for all things in real time. And the status of all those things in real time tends to change, constantly.

Throw in ever-complicating factors such as as an ill-intending national media that is nipping at his heels constantly, other national and international matters/issues that haven't merely gone away that he remains responsible for, etc etc etc

All the while making a significant effort to keep hope and the light at the end of the tunnel always in the picture....

One can surely see how it's not very easy to have the consistent message across all those things and aspects mentioned herein. Not saying he couldn't have chosen differently in some decisions, but again it's a much more complicated assessment than most people practice.

Celt,

Just acknowledge that President Trump can o no right in your eyes. No matter what.

He gives (correctly) power to the states to make changes = President Trump wants conflict, or needs adulation.

President Trump mandates certain rules for the country to follow = he is dictator!!

You are an insufferable doink.

i will go with trump is encouraging protest against ideas his health officials say are necessary.

the protests are organized by republican office holders and campaign workers.

trump is acting against the clear advise of fauci and blix. trump calls for civil disobediance and his campaign workers arrange it.

if this info is new to you do a search.
pretending you need a link is bogus in.this instance you heard him do it.

The protest there was organized by the Michigan Conservative Coalition, a group founded by a pro-Trump state representative and his wife, Meshawn Maddock, who is on the advisory board for an official Trump campaign group called “Women for Trump” and is also the co-founder of Michigan Trump Republicans. Their daughter is a field organizer for the Michigan Republican Party.

Another in-state group helping organize protests against the shutdown order is the Michigan Freedom Fund, led by Greg McNeilly. McNeilly is a longtime Republican operative (formerly serving as executive director of the Michigan GOP) and a friend of the powerful DeVos family. He worked as campaign manager for Republican Dick DeVos’s 2006 gubernatorial campaign — Betsy DeVos, Dick DeVos’s wife, currently serves as US Secretary of Education.

In Wisconsin, the main anti-shutdown group, Open Wisconsin Now, was organized by the Committee to Unleash Prosperity and FreedomWorks. The Committee to Unleash Prosperity was founded by Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore, coauthors of Trumponomics: Inside the America First Plan to Revive Our Economy. Moore also served as president of the Club for Growth and was nominated by the president to serve on the board of the Federal Reserve before withdrawing after misogynistic remarks Moore made in the early 2000s were surfaced by reporters.
