This is going to destroy half of our state. Farming is our livelihood.

Mississippi will have to migrate to Chicago all over again.

Do you mean the welfare bill where the government creates winners and losers and eliminates a free market?

That one?

I won’t suggest that I know all of what’s in this year’s farm bill, but historically, farm bills have been chock full of pork. They have until September to pass the thing, and holding passage gives the conservatives more time to cut it back, plus more leverage in the wall and immigration discussions.

Why does Mississippi need other states to subsidize farming? Surely Mississippi was able to farm before the farm bill. If they can't farm without one, maybe they shouldn't be in the farming business.

The vast majority of the Farm Bill is SNAP (food stamps) and that is what the fight is about.

The sticking point is work requirements for SNAP.

The "farm" part of it is less than 20% of the total.

The food stamp rules keep dems from support

The house anti immigrant clan tried to put an immigration bill on the farm bill or it would have passed with just gop votes.

Mississippi should determine its own policies including trade. Instead, DC gives it welfare as long as that state plays by DC's rules.

So the democrats have over 40% in each chamber that is almost 100% useless so how is the GOP not getting virtually 100% agreement on their side "the GOP not passing a farm bill"?

Like the other folks have said, letting a lot of that shite die through paralysis is probably more beneficial anyway.

It's the dems who support their voters with food stamps.

Every single Democrat voted against it. What is in it that is so anathema to them?

Millionaire Congressmen and Senators want more millions to subsidize their agra-businesses, but they can't tolerate subsistence level spending for food?

Actually, that’s ingenious. Over 80% of the Farm Bill is for SNAP and other nutrition programs. The farm subsidy part of the farm bill had to be revenue neutral, and didn’t change in funding.

In reality this is a Food Stamp bill with some farm program funding attached to it.

But never mind the doublespeak narrative.

It's a Food Stamp Bill...not a farm bill

Its the food stamp bill being held up by freedom caucus in attempt to move up vote on hardline immigration bill.
House leaders called the freedom caucus hijackers.
