Google vs Apple data collection

There's alot of posts on here about tech giants and their privacy practices. I'm concerned about Google and how they go about data collection. I'm also concerned about how they might be assisting totalitarian regimes, such as China, utilize their services to further oppress their populations.
As an Android user, I'm wondering if switching to an iPhone would be appropriate to send my money (and data) elsewhere. Or is Apple not any better?

As far as data collection, there is little difference between the two: both collect virtually everything.
As far as data use, google makes a much larger portion of their revenue from selling your data to third parties. Apple still uses you data, but they keep almost everything they collect in house (independent apps notwithstanding). Google doesn’t. They place significantly lower priority protecting the data they collect.

I don’t think that’s right

You are grossly misinformed. Facebook is basically a data mining company. And it is ruthlessly efficient about it. Facebook's app on your phone has permission that you granted to it when you installed it to monitor and log all data on your phone from texts to browser history even when you aren't using the app.

Apple and Google are basically equal when it comes to selling your data. Google just makes more because it has more.

Apple is a hardware/software/services company.

If you have a rooted android phone you have more control over this than a standard iPhone.
However you have to take the time to root it, unlock developer mode, install ADB, and delete various apps on there.
After this you can install a VPN, not use a Google account on the phone, and download APKs from aptoide.
You still have to watch what those individual apps do.

Woops, that’s a very bad typo on my part. Facebook most certainly does do sketchy shite with your data. Apple is a little more conservative with it.
My apologies, typing to fast and not being careful. Thanks for the catch, fixed
