I think if you gave money to a beggar on the street that would be a demonstrable act of compassion and mercy. Why not? You certainly don't need to worship the Creator to show compassion and mercy to your fellow man.
On the other hand, when the lights go out and you exhale your last breath I guess you're confident the show is over......but if it's not?
