If tariffs aren't the answer what is? How do you convince a manufacturer to build their stuff here? Or do you think we need to continue down the service/tech based economy where half the country is on drugs and losing their jobs? Lower taxes only go so far. Tariffing means we use our leverage as the world's largest consumer market instead of acting like we aren't.
It is indeed a global market place and we are a huge part of that global market. There is no reason our people shouldn't be able to have good jobs. Tariffs hurt short term, but long term they can be beneficial. Tariffs built our nation's industry.

GM and Ford need to stop making shitty cheap cars.

Their trucks and SUVs are great.

you obviously haven't owned a GMC sierra in the last 15 years

I’m guessing you haven’t been in any of their competitors vehicles in that same timeframe. From off-center steering wheels to cheap plastic, 2003 era fake wood grain and uninspired styling, GM trucks have been slipping - especially since 2015MY.

They’ve been able to prop up their sales with EP for everyone, supplier pricing and 20% off but the fact is Ford and FCA are gaining market share.

What we’re seeing now is the first step towards correcting what should have been fixed in 2009. GM has always been a bloated good ole boys club. It takes 3 people to do what their competitors do with 1 and under performers and employees with the right last name are the first to get promoted. It’s about time they started cleaning it up.

The good news is, for union folks, the car industry is still strong at 16.5+ million SAAR and if it holds over 16 next year, GM is going to be in a position of year-over-year sales losses and further market share losses simply due to playing in fewer nameplates. Once the old school execs see that, they’ll be gearing up more plants to build more SUVs and trucks... Particularly on HD’s where they are already having production issues.

Haven’t bought a new car since 2002. I’ve never had a problem finding good used cars 1-2 years old and I’m saving 20-30% vs new.

Everyone's an idiot for buying a new car. This isn't a gun, cars depreciate overnight.

People have caught on. Not wasting $20,000 extra grand for that new car smell.

And buy a normal car or truck that actually fits inside the white lines of America's roads.

Trump shouldn’t intervene in private business decisions

GM made it clear this is in response to falling demand for the specific car made in the Ohio factory

Nobody is entitled to a job. Especially when demand for the product you make falls.
