He wanted go go straight to russia, but mccarther was 100000% against it. we also before sides were picked, had also thought of invading the UK. they would of been toast taking bombings from west and east nightly

We then formed NATO, continued to add countries to the east even though we said we would not, and now have started a proxy war in Ukraine.
Maybe Russia fought on the wrong side in WW2. Hmmmm

I inferred that the effects of the Cold War you cited (nuclear scare and Vietnam) were not apparent in 1945, not the USSR being an adversary in general.
If we had really known then what we know now, that’s a different story.
