Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell

Apparently the House Financial Services Committee asked Jerome Powell if he would step down if fired by the President. What kind of question is that and isn't he a presidential appointee? Why do these people get their rocks off on this kind of stuff? It is fruitless.

EDIT: He said he would not step down.

I guess I'm more so trying to understand....does he work at the direction of the President? Meaning, can the President fire him or does he have to work the 4 year term once appointed?

He is but there is much debate whether or not the Fed chair serves at the pleasure of the POTUS since the Federal Reserve is not an Executive branch agency.

The Fed chair has to give a report to congress twice a year but technically the Fed chair reports to the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors.
