The good news is that EBR has modernized enough that custody starts at 50/50 and adjusts based on the details. Had you been in another parish, as the dad you’d have a worse ratio to start from.

If what you're saying is true though, good luck. Sucks dealing with someone suffering from substance abuse. Been there, done that, and would never wish it upon anyone. I could write a book. The evidence journal I kept to ensure my daughter would remain in my custody, is about 300 pages long.

One last thing. The 2 best things I did in the whole ordeal were to spend copious time/money with child development professionals and to develop a very detailed custody plan. Child development counsel is critical so that you can navigate the change with as little damage done to them as possible. Especially important if the kids are young young. Sadly almost nobody does this.
