Their breaking the law played absolutely no part in the process?

Black people are 12 times more likely to be wrongfully convicted than white people. Although I'd like to see how much of that is influenced by the ability to pay for good legal defense. For example, those Duke lax kids (who were totally innocent) would still be in jail if they didn't have upper middle class/rich parents. No public defender would've stood a chance. That's pretty much undeniable.

Black college grads also have twice the unemployment rate as white college grads. That is harder to explain.

Why is/are the law(s) on the books in the first place?

Systematic racism.

This thread began about exact policies of systematic racism. I answered it

So I ask, why aren't Kapernick and Reid protesting the drug war? Why aren't they addressing the real problem?

Any concerned citizen would expect our laws to be administered fairly, and enforced equally across the spectrum.

Not hard to explain... just is not a call for that many community organizers and urban planners... Quite frankly, the colleges are to blame for this more than anything else for offering shite degrees with little to not employment opportunities...

I don't know.
Ask them.

NO, they would have still been pulled away from their families if the two drugs had the same sentencing requirements... The bottom line of the problem is breaking the law, not the law in this instance...

In order to be systemic, the law would have to be something that they could not avoid because of their race... Are you saying that blacks cannot avoid breaking the law, so all laws are systemic racism?

Yeah that clears that right up.

The only credible study conducted on the issue of racial/ethnic bias in policing found that while there was evidence of racial/ethnic prejudice in the use of non-lethal force, that evidence points to taste-based discrimination and not systemic discrimination.

But who gives a flying frick about data these days?

No. But, a law that affects two races dealing with the same drug (coke vs crack) in such tremendously disproportionate ways should be a sign that something is rotten in Denmark.

Blacks use "drugs" at the same rate as whites but are incarcerated at a much higher rate.

And neither do I.

I only asked you because you provided a logical answer to my original question.

Maybe if Reid and Kapernick thought as you do then we'd have had a logical explanation as to why they are protesting. They certainly have a national platform to bring up the issues you presented.

Or maybe they don't want to get painted as pro-drug. I dunno.

Or maybe they don't have a clue as to what they really want?
