John Harold Rogers, 64, a former senior adviser in the Federal Reserve's Division of International Finance, was sentenced Wednesday to 38 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich in Washington.
He was convicted of making false statements after denying he shared restricted information—like tariff deliberations and FOMC details—with Chinese nationals posing as students but linked to intelligence operations; he reportedly received $450,000 for part-time teaching roles.
A jury acquitted him of conspiring on economic espionage, which could have meant 15 years, in a case marked by spycraft elements including online seduction and blackmail attempts with nude photos. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro called it a clear betrayal of trust amid U.S.-China tensions.

I thought it was a very light sentence as well.

Does this charge mean something specific that isn't "sharing secret economic discussions with foreign actors?" Based on what was shared here, "economic espionage" sounds like it's exactly what he did.

38 months is nowhere near enough.
