Currently I think the majority of the people are not on the side of Islamic rule.

Unfortunately, 30,000 are dead due to this regime. This alone will be held against the Mullah led faction. Those that hunkered down will not expose themselves until we further weaken the Guard enough to make a difference. So far, we are taking out nuclear sites, missiles, launchers, and military assets. Give it more time and the Guard will be significantly weaker. Another wing of their military may see that this is a chance for change. Time will tell. In the meantime, BOMBS AWAY.

I find it very hard to believe we have a coherent plan with this.

It's even harder to believe we have so many adults that think we engaged without a plan.

Do you think that the plan was coherent?

but we beat Japan with air power, didn’t we?

We did not beat them with air power alone. In order to even get within range to bomb them we had to put boots on ground all over the Pacific, from Guadalcanal to Okinawa. In order for it to be even feasible to bomb Japan tens of thousands of American and other allied ground troops had to die.

And even then it was the combination of the atomic bomb and the Soviet invasion of Manchuria that forced the Japanese to surrender.
