Newsom gets to attack a Republican who is deeply hated by his base
DeSantis gets brownie points for shitting on a commie Governor who is the Biden backup plan.
The only people who can’t see a benefit for DeSantis are the ones who see Trump as inevitable and DeSantis as a traitor.
If this debate happened last year there would be insane hype for it from all of you in this thread ready to cheer Ron on.

So far Ron has not shown he is strong in a multi person debate. Maybe a one-on-one will be different and he can slam Newsom on CA failures and its socialist agenda.

Yeah I mean, MANY people don’t see Biden running again. This is Newsom’s shot to show how he can “beat” the Republicans. The Dems clearly don’t want Biden to run again, so Dem voters will tune into this and eat up Newsom like college marxists eat up pro-Palestine shite. You could broadcast the debate in Swahili or some obscure language Dems don’t understand, and as long as Dems see a clean cut guy who they think is empathetic, he will become their guy. Sounds like an exaggeration, it’s completely true in the majority of cases. The amount of people I know who voted for Biden because they thought he was “empathetic” and that Trump was a racist criminal is staggering.
So Ron could give the greatest points ever, tout the biggest accomplishments ever, all Newsom has to do is a few character assassinations and regular use of “racism” “insurrection” and “white supremacy” and he wins this going away.

I hope Ron wins but I disagree that he has much to gain from this. This will not move the needle at all in favor of Ron. Those who like him and/or Hate Trump know they will support him in the primary.
It stands to move the needle for undecided Fox viewers who hate Trump to back Newsom if those two end up in the general. We need those undecided to vote for RFK instead of the D nominee.

Gavin will likely try to paint DeSantis as Trump 2.0 to scare any independents away from supporting DeSantis.

This will not move the needle at all for Ron. Even if it does, it will not make up the more than 40-point and growing deficit he faces. The R primary is over.
Meanwhile, Gavin is working to position himself for when Biden announces he isn't running and this will introduce him to a new set of eyeballs that probably aren't regularly exposed to him.
