Self-righteous people who fell for the whole "honor code" bullshite and hypocrites who call themselves conservative but don't mind taking a dip from the government trough.
eta: There are people I've known to vote straight ticket Republican but voted for JBE because they knew someone in his family. Basically they thought they could get a favor because a local boy is governor. Really shows the kind of personality someone has that they're weak, willing to throw principles out the window just to kiss the arse of some guy who may not even see a second term.

Don't underestimate the Edwards clan in getting out the vote. They have a machine in Tangi that keep the den of snakes elected. I wouldn't be surprised JBE reaches into that to get people in those parishes voting for him.
If the Democrat machine couldn't get him to 50% on Saturday, I'm not sure how much better it's going to be able to do in three weeks. JBE knew damn well how important it was for him to avoid a runoff, and clearly many in his camp were EXPECTING an outright win, so I'd assume they had that machine running full-tilt. There simply isn't much more, if any, room to grow for him with Dem voters. If Abraham voters unite and show up again next month then JBE is gone, period.

Trust me.
My father's family has lived in Tangi since the 1950s. My grandparents hated the Edwards and both were democrats all their lives. There are other reasons too but I wish to withhold that to be honest.
JBE's daddy built quite the network and he and his brother have plenty of political cronies. They'll find a way. Like I said, don't underestimate them. Get out and vote. Get others to get out and vote. They're banking on voter apathy.

Both ran against awful Republican opponents while painting themselves as being conservatives who happened to be Democrats.

Louisiana is not a red state. Louisiana is a populist state which runs purple. Moderate Democrats, which Edwards presents himself as, remain popular throughout the state.
Many powerful Republicans in the stat switched as recently as 2007.

Very true, but there's not much else on the ballot other than some runoffs and that's typically not going to get asses in the voting booths
That could work both ways though. Rs who came out to vote for Saint George may stay home this go round. With all the Rs recently elected, it might favor the Ds because people may have been going out to vote for their R legislator, BESE member, etc.

JBE had 47%
Rispone/Abraham had 51%.
Turnout in the runoff should be a push compared to the primary, or slightly favor Rispone.
Rispone has to hold just about all of the Abraham vote. That's what it will come down to.
I don't see many Abraham voters supporting JBE... but they have to show up and vote for Rispone. Every Abraham voter that stays home is a benefit to JBE.

District 3 in Jeff Parish is gonna be a shitshow (Shepherd vs Lee) and you would think it would drive the Dems to show up... but it only had 32.8% turnout for the primary, lower than the other 3 district races in JP and lower than the parish-wide races. Also, District 2 has a runoff that should drive the GOP vote.
Orleans has no local races but has some state rep and state senator races in overtime.

Clueless or a Troll. What are your other screen names to help us determine that?

Don’t underestimate how loathsome Honor Code is to the Republicans. A couple of rallies with the Orange Man and the turtle will be sauce piquant on Election Day.
