As is usual when science is discussed, the terminology gets all mixed up, and folks don’t understand each other. Don, being a moron, doesn’t understand the difference between storms of increasing energy and storms of increasing intensity. Camille was far more intense than Katrina, but Katrina had far more energy because it was so much larger.
I have not taken a scientific look at the data, because it’s not terribly important to me, and I could be wrong about this, but it seems to me that the storms of this century have more energy to them than those of the last half of last century. A. Warmer ocean seems like a likely explanation. However, they don’t seem to be more numerous or more intense.

A Cat 4 or 5 had the same intensity in 1970 as it does noe, the difference is the populations & cost of constructions
