I will state again that anyone whose parents or grandparents had a mortgage in 1975 or before (probably 1985) needs to think about how their life would be different today if that parent or grandparent had instead not been allowed to build wealth through home ownership.

in terms of parents, my mom is the only family member of her generation who owns her own home
but if she had been renting, it wouldn't be any different for me

Part of the problem is what I watched last night. Hour long documentary called "Comic Book Heroes" about Mid-Town Comics in NYC. One of the kids was an aspiring comic book artist and talked about how he's putting all his money into his new comic an that he's living on food stamps.
I was like WTF!?!? Tax Payers are taking care of you so you can pursue your dream? What if I quit my job to start a website or magazine or whatever, will the tax payers cover me. I mean I had to work my way through college with student loans and a full time job. Had been able to just do school I could have accomplished so much more. It's that attitude in my belief that's what is hurting this country.
