I took the poster's question as perhaps more than rhetorical, and asked by someone that's well-versed in the arguments surrounding abortion. I thought it was an interesting question regardless of one's view on abortion.

Yep. And if we didn't place a dollar figure on human lives with respect to automobiles then literally no one would drive or ride in a vehicle or we'd still be driving Pinto grenades.
