It is an official state holiday in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and South Carolina.

It's strange, because in Birmingham, you'd never even know it existed, but then I worked in the capitol district in Montgomery for a few years, and the entire downtown shuts down.

why would anyone at this point celebrate confederate soldiers? Do families actually sit around and talk about relatives that served back then?

The Second Amendment only applies to the government. The people are not granted the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment. They are natural rights, and the government cannot take them away. That is what the Second Amendment says, Fudd.
