Dems/Libs should be elated with Tariffs and I’ll tell you why

1) They say tariffs are like a tax, and Dems love them some taxes, so this is what they should want, right?
2) They say the Trump tax cuts must be offset somewhere, so tariffs, a tax as they say, can be viewed as this offset, right?
3) Tariffs may have an impact on returning manufacturing jobs to the US. Manufacturing jobs are usually viewed as a traditional Democratic blue collar union worker (although not like in the past). They should want these manufacturing jobs, right?
4) Tariffs may cause inflation. If so and prices go up, that means sales tax revenues go up in proportion, giving municipalities more money for local government spending. They should like this, right?
So what gives? We all know the answer, it’s because it’s Trump’s plans, not theirs. They hate America.

The Dems are elated with the tariffs because it is destroying the market which in turn is tanking Trump's approval rating

Sure.
Look, there were two advocates for tariffs in 2016. Trump, and self-avowed Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders.
Now, that should show you what kind of idea tariffs are, but it won't, so returning to the context of your post...
Biden kept almost all of Trump's 2018 tariffs in place and expanded some of them. Tariffs are a leftist idea. Of course they like them, and of course they are only pretending to not like them b/c Trump is in office and probably at least 9/10 Americans don't even remember that Biden kept Trump's first round of tariffs or that he even instituted any.

Reagan had a recession in 1982 - how'd that turn out?

I guess if they want the price of goods to increase for all Americans they might.

The Dems won the national house vote in the 1982 elections by +12% and won 269 (62%) house seats

1) I think the argument would be that a graduated income tax taxes the wealthy at a higher rate, whereas a value added tax hits all consumers equally and lower middle class to working poor have the hardest time not buying necessities and so basically it shifts the tax burden to the “wrong people”.
2) yes, but there difficulties. Tariffs only work as a consistent source of revenue when people are paying them. If people switch to buying products made at home, the revenue goes down.
3) they only want these jobs if they are staffed by union workers. If and when they come back they are likely to be highly automated and run by a comparatively few workers, and so there isn’t really a working class base being created. Also, it takes years for infrastructure to come back, it took decades to leave, and so there is an interim where people are paying higher prices and not getting any jobs from it; and if we are trying to get continued revenue, we really don’t want those jobs back anyway.
4. Sure.
I think the best reason for tariffs has nothing to do with jobs or tax revenue. I think tariffs are an economic harm for most Americans no matter how they are spun. The reason to do it anyway is that’s the price of national security. Ie all of us might have to pay more for the tariffs on electronics because of the chip tariff on Taiwan, but it allows us to not have to defend Taiwan in the advent of a Chinese invasion. I don’t think you can really put a price on that

The Market is a very short term snapshot of the economy. It's ruled by a herd mentality, with the slightest of chirping from Chicken Little's sending it off the deep end. The correction was imminent, because it was over sold. The buoyant Herd bought in a frenzy post election , it was only a matter of time before speculation was caught by reality.

If you're going to be the party of the middle class, like the Republicans are pitching, tariffs can't be part of the playbook, because tariffs act as a regressive tax, and that's counter to being the party of the working class.

Which honestly, means nothing. He won’t be running for reelection. Short term pains for long term gains, I’ll take it…
ETA: Way to many ignorant sky screamers out there. Unfortunately, the majority of this country lacks critical thinking skills. It is demonstrated daily.
