The way I understood it is that she was proposing to create government purchase contracts for various drugs in order to increase the supply. So for example, they’d theoretically create a contract to purchase 100k doses of insulin, let the lowest cost provider fill that contract, and then distribute those doses to the people who need them.



Which truth be told is far from the worse medical care policy proposed tonight (which I hate saying for any of Warren’s policies, but this one does make more sense than others). Prescription drugs almost certainly face inelastic demand curves, which means that there is a monetary incentive to keep supply low. So even a modest increase in the final supply could have a sizeable impact on lowering price. I think there are better ways to get prices down, but there are also far worse one (cough price controls cough).

So nuts.

I may have to turn this off.
