He'll be held accountable by reasonable Trump voters, which comprise the majority. Unlike others whose shrewd political insight was also mixed in with complete lack of criticism of ineffectual Republican governance form both the minority, and majority. They doubled down on incompetence this last cycle. No reasonable person takes them seriously.

As an example, look at the irrational reaction to a tweet. Whether it's factual or not. The seeming suspense of disbelief by posters such as yourself, as if no other President has lied. If it turns out to be a lie, this time we MUST take it seriously, notwithstanding we have never reacted like this in the past. A significantly important issue to "principled conservatives> and prognosticators. More important that national security, tax reform health care, entitlement reform combined.

Why should reasonable people be surprised establishment Republicans, Democrats and their apologists react like this? We shouldn't, they've had no clue what is important, and what if fodder for over two decades. In a word, they are delusional. They have been wrong before, at the expense of the country, and we will see them continue, all the while pounding their chests that they are "principled".

He should really start getting his info from intelligence briefings instead of the fake news he claims to despise.

Senate committee announcement that it has no evidence that there was any surveillance on Trump Tower. As opposed to tap (or tapp).

Surveillance is a much broader term. This is significant.

Also glad to see they took the epistemologically correct route of saying they hadn't seen any evidence rather than proclaiming none exists, even if this does favor Trump and his ongoing conspiracy theory.

Sorry I can't get the URL of the jpeg in that tweet on my twitter client.

And today the Senate intelligence committee the leaders stated that there are "no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of surveillance by any element either before or after election day ". I thought Trump had the evidence and he was telling the truth. Boy I have had the wool pulled over my eyes by Donald Trump

Please? Kill this thread. it's just damn embarrassing that this is a sticky, when liberals say that is just an echo chamber for right wing alternative facts, this is a prime example.

No, this thread needs to stay as a monument to how far some will go to justify a tweet that even most Trumpkins thought was just crazy bullshite at the time.

As I said, no reasonable person takes people who find this issue critical seriously.

So...no reasonable person takes the President seriously?

LOL. I was expecting another 3 paragraph diatribe.

Its pretty simple. Trump, the President of the United States, accused the former President of wiretapping him. While I would love to see Trump bring down the thunder on Obama, he didn't back up his claim with anything. All it did was hurt his credibility and take away from the goodwill he ginned up from his Congressional Address.

So it'd be nice to see his supporters say "Yeah, Trump was an idiot for flying off the rails like that" but it's been obvious for over a year that the collective response would be some sort of deflection or a mental gymnastics performance.

So in summary
Trump makes specific claim and compares Obama to McCarthy and Nixon
Trump asks Congress to investigate something he apparently already knows.
Press Sec, DoJ both publicly refuse to back Trump and call the words his. Former DNI publicly and explicitly refutes claim. Head of FBI allegedly asks DoJ to deny FBI involvement.
Senate and House both investigate. Trump fails to produce evidence (which he can declassify, as executive). Senate committee announcement applies to much broader claim than Trump was making.
Obama may have standing to sue Trump in spite of public figure 1A rule.

Well, based on his recent comments it's not clear yet what's going to happen. But to answer your concern about him flying off the handle if there is no veracity to what he said, it doesn't matter. Not now, not yet. It might matter later on down the road, but we're not there yet. It never mattered during the election. Something I pointed out constantly, as well as mentioning I wish he didn't do this, but I was correct, it didn't matter.

Sometimes it takes three paragraphs. Detail has served me well. Apparently the Don, and possibly yourself, can make it reasonably comfortable through life on 144 character. I'm certain he can, I have my doubts about most others however.

Can the president be sued for libel per se? Asking for a concerned friend.
