No, society wouldn't collapse, but those who control this world would lose their grip on power. War would pretty much become a thing of the past. No more oil. No more borders. Etc. It's hard to even imagine all the ways our lives would change.
You need look no farther than Nikola Tesla and JP Morgan to see how the "elites" think of this stuff. When Tesla offered to give us all free electricity, Morgan said that he can't put a meter on free. We could have been beyond all this bullshite we see today more than 100 years ago.
