Nope. Kim was as bold as he has ever been until the "fire and fury" speech and the new sanctions were announcement 2 weeks ago. He called Trump a "dotard" for crying out loud.
You'd just as soon give Harry Truman credit for this.

Well, in fairness, you have to examine the entire situation facing NK. The sanctions are a big element of the overall picture. Combine that with the war drums and the pressure on NK increased. The breakthrough, I think, came in the direct outreach by South K. And the Olympics probably helped tremendously. Trump gets credit for his part, which was to try to credibility project that he was just crazy enough to do it, a part which he did play well. Hopefully the deal will last beyond the cooling off period.

Also, don’t lose sight of the likelihood that CNN is an integrated part of the overall strategy here. In order to pull off a “he’s just crazy enough to do it” strategy, Kim had to believe that Americans believed Trump was crazy and unpredictable regarding possible nuclear was with NK. CNN started and maintained that conversation here very forcefully. To NK, it looks less like a negotiation tactic if domestic American media confirm the concept as actually true.
My belief is that the projection by the president and American media was coordinated. That includes CNN.

Trump was never going to start a nuclear war with NK. Everyone knows that.

I always believed that but he couldn’t have projected that threat credibly without internal American media providing daily confirmation that he just might do it.
This was the Regan strategy with the USSR which cause the final massive arms race which ultimately led to the USSR deciding it wasn’t worth it. During that era, the American media’s “confirmation” that Regan was unpredictable was a key element. The US may have just run this same play again.

I guess I find it hard to believe Trump did anything in concert with CNN. And I I find it even harder to believe that CNN did anything knowingly that would help a Trump administration.

These gigantic media companies are critical elements of our national strategic actions. Don’t ever lose sight of this. They all play ball.
In Nicaragua after the Sandinista revolution there were three national newspapers, one right wing and anti-Sandinista, one central and pragmatic, and one left wing pro- Sandinista. They were all owned by members of the same family.
CNN and Fox are more coordinated than you probably think.

Obama don't know shite.
Obama ain't done shite
Obama ain't shite.
The SK National Security Advisor gave Trump the credit for pressuring NK. CNN is full of shite as usual.

That chick is the upper middle dressed in white is a former Obama administration official and she was saying that it it is logistically impossible for the president to meet Kim by May. There is just not enough time to arrange this kind of meeting.
