Chinese Purchases

We keep talking about Chinese tariffs. Those tariffs make “Make in America” products less expensive which is good for our economy. I don’t know why all of us couldn’t start our own “tariff” initiative by shopping smarter. Look at the tag before you buy. If the product is “Made in China” just look for an alternative. Let’s say all of us just purchase 15-20% fewer “Made in China” products. Now I know this isn’t as easy as it sounds in the global economy we have but just a little effort couldn’t hurt. We have to remember that WE, the American Consumers, have a choice.
Let’s stop buying Nike, Starbucks for political reasons and also anything we can that’s obviously made in China. It’s a start. I’ve tried this and it takes a little effort but the products I buy are better and when it comes down to it much of the impulse buys that are Chinese, are products I can live without.

I find it impossible to disagree with your statement.

I’ve been doing that. If you don’t shop at Walmart, it’s easy to find non-China products.

Can I still buy my bird seed from Wal mart?

I am going to ask you to Stop. IB is not going to make it. He had a heart attack yesterday over Rice purchases.

Yes. Walmart forced many US businesses to leave the country. Walmart, after Sam Walton's death, began a campaign of pushing all US manufacturing retail out of the country for a price point. Companies were allowed the privilege of having an office in Bentonville, AR to be read the riot act.

I have been doing this for years. I applaud you for doing it as well and hope everyone would do this.

All of us with all of our purchasing power can make a difference. Just try a little harder and look before you buy. China is not our friend. We strengthen them every time we buy their products.

Does someone have a list of common goods like shoes for my high schooler or charcoal like someone mentioned that we should avoid to stick it to China or American made goods to buy?

Kingsford Charcoal is 100% American made. The poster was being sarcastic. New Balance tennis shoes are American made as are Brooks. There are plenty of American made products. You just have to try a little harder sometimes.

Yes I'm making a conscious effort to do this as well.
We need to take back our country because China doesn't have our best interests in mind. Once they get a near monopoly on any industry by putting domestics out of business, you can bet they'll jack up prices.

Just like Walmart and Amazon. Watch both of them.

^^^ Yes. Amazon is dangerous. They've operated in the red for so long in order to build up a customer base of robotic thinking... customers that buy from them on instinct and don't price shop.
Now look at their net income growth -
2015: $600 million
2016: $2.3 billion
2017: $3.0 billion
2018: $10.0 billion

I already use Kingsford and the kid will own 2 pair of New Balance shoes for school this year. Thanks

I hate to admit it but I own their stock. After a recent bad experience buying from Amazon I’m going to sell my Amazon stock. They use some very deceptive practices which trick people into reordering products and then make it difficult to cancel the order. I just don’t trust them and like years ago I sold Phillip Morris I’ll sell my Amazon stock on principle.
I’ve become more patriotic since Trump came on the scene. He is awakening an American populace to what’s going on right under our noses.

Explain how that happens.

Which car are you going to park? which computer are you going to throw out? what household chemicals are you going to quit using? are you going to quit these meat based dog foods with things like duck and other imported proteins in them?
I suspect most Chinese imports are inputs for goods manufactured in the USA. Wiring harnesses for cars and ATVs for example that are made for cars that are actually assembled in the USA.
Do as you wish and good luck to you but you will find an out and out ban to be hard to live up too.
