Who am I speaking of none other than loyal government servant, the great Senator from Arizona- John McCain.

Anyone care to explain this? Anyone think something is wrong with this picture? He must be the best money manager in history!

Some highlights of his genius:

-a U.S. senator from Arizona since 1987, and was the Republican nominee for president in 2008.

-a 22-year military career as a pilot and officer in the Navy.

- elected to Congress in 1982, and then was elected as U.S. senator from Arizona in 1986.

When or where did he actually hold a job in the private sector that would allow him to accumulate such a net worth?

Let’s assume he made $5,000,000 on his book- hard to imagine but let’s assume that.
Where’s the other $16 m coming from on a govt salary his whole life?

THIS IS THE DEFINTITION OF SWAMP CREATURE. THERE’S THEM AND THERE’S THE THE REST OF US!!

The Richest John Mccain

No no no. This is HIS net worth, NOT HERS!

Cindy MCCain c/o wiki: By 2007, she had an annual income of over $400,000 from Hensley and an estimated net worth of $100 million. She also owned at least $2.7 million worth of shares of Anheuser-Busch stock.

Selfless servant of the people, no doubt. However, I believe he came from a wealthy family and married money as well.

quote:

PHOENIX — When Senator John McCain is in Washington, he lives in a luxury high-rise condominium in Arlington, Va., owned by his wife, Cindy Hensley McCain. Mrs. McCain also owns their condos in Phoenix, San Diego and Coronado, Calif., and their vacation compound near Sedona, Ariz. And it is the beer business, Hensley & Company, she inherited from her father that is the source of the McCain family fortune.

That fortune makes Mr. McCain one of the richest members of the Senate. Yet barely a sliver of it is in his name.

Democrats have increasingly highlighted Mr. McCain’s wealth. Senator Barack Obama ridiculed him on Thursday for being unable to say how many homes he owned, saying it showed that Mr. McCain was out of touch with ordinary Americans. But with the McCains’ money in Cindy McCain’s name, as dictated by a prenuptial agreement, the senator’s finances are more difficult to assess and scrutinize than those of many other political candidates.

The husbands and wives of senators are subject to fewer disclosure requirements than their office-holding spouses. In addition, Mrs. McCain, who files separate tax returns from her husband, controls a privately held company and invests mainly through a web of limited-liability corporations and trusts that have few disclosure requirements. She declined to be interviewed.

He's had over 60 years to accumulate wealth. $21 million isn't remotely impressive.

I'm pretty sure it was his in-laws money, making it far less impressive. To me, at least.

Said this in another thread:

Congress is exempt from insider trading violations that you and I have to follow. They cannot be charged with insider trading crimes. So if you know of some legislation that will favor or not favor a particular company or industry you can play the market with that knowledge and score bigly...

A relatively small monthly contribution in somewhat low risk investments over that time would yield more than that.

Whatever the case, this is a stupid thread from someone who doesn't know anything about money.

Cindy McCain is worth $100 Million. Since their marriage, John and Cindy have obviously co-invested in her bottling company, real estate, etc. Actually $21 Million is lower than I'd expect, which is about par for the course considering we're talking John McCain.

Go ahead and show us the math.

How does one on a $175k a year (before taxes) and before expenses of living accumulate that kind of net worth.

My money guy is fricking me then.

Where’s your office? I’ll bring all my retirement accounts and give you cart blanche to do what McCain has done with his govt salary.

I’m free Monday morning if you have a slot open to meet. I can fly to Ohio And take the meeting at your leisure.

No, it's not. He's actually well behind where he should be, assuming he's a money genius, as you mockingly referred to in your OP.
