The "beauty" of the Hamlin operation (purposely conducted and shrouded in mystery) was in that however the incident and aftermath played out, any claims could plausibly have been true. In other words, it was a crookedly played game to begin with.
The entire charade reminded me of a card Game: "PICK A CARD...I'LL GUESS IT."
