If a detained illegal immigrant decides the detention is too cruel or they just change their mind about wanting to enter the US, are they free to leave and return home?

The detention centers provide a higher quality of living than they’re used to.

why would they? most barely make it to the border. they are hurting from that trek across mexico. how many die in mexico on the trip?

I'm trying to understand how bad these facilities may or may not be. If they are free to leave and none of them do, that kind of proves the liberal arguments wrong about these places.

Yes they can leave the country if they’ve committed no other crime. But I think they have to admit to entering the country illegally.

Their return can even be fastracked via the exciting catapult option.

Just googling your question would be more helpful than asking this board.
I don't think they can just walk up to a guard and say they will voluntarily depart and go home. There's still a process and at a certain point they can opt to voluntarily accept deportation which would cut the detention time short. This is my very rough understanding which is likely missing some finer details and/or could be way off.

I’m sure they can waive their “rights” to due process and request to be immediately deported.

I asked here because I could not find a certain answer using Google. I was hoping somebody here would point to a source.

Dozens of people go to OPP every night for shite as stupid as peeing in public and petting a cop's horse. I don't hear anybody raising hell about the conditions at OPP and I can promise you, as a first-hand witness, it's way worse than these detention centers at the border

That is the nuts and bolts of it without getting into the legal procedure of it.
