Can an illegal immigrants leave the detention facility and return home?

The detention centers provide a higher quality of living than they’re used to.

I'm trying to understand how bad these facilities may or may not be. If they are free to leave and none of them do, that kind of proves the liberal arguments wrong about these places.

Their return can even be fastracked via the exciting catapult option.

Just googling your question would be more helpful than asking this board.

I don't think they can just walk up to a guard and say they will voluntarily depart and go home. There's still a process and at a certain point they can opt to voluntarily accept deportation which would cut the detention time short. This is my very rough understanding which is likely missing some finer details and/or could be way off.

I asked here because I could not find a certain answer using Google. I was hoping somebody here would point to a source.
