They apparently have about seven levels of stupid interacting here.
Closing down coal and nuclear plants
Insisting on solar and wind for peak-usage power
Refusing to allow power companies to properly manage infrastructure, meaning over stressed lines which spark and trees which are too close to those lines
Buying power from Arizona to make ends meet rather than building new nuclear or gas plants
Etc
Cutting out car emissions may help them on one level but, between jobs becoming more mobile and electric cars meaning a higher peak draw in the evening when people arrive home, they are trading one set of headaches for another.
