The ENGL 0091 and 0092 classes were deeply remedial. I mean, like basic elementary reading below a fifth grade ability. I had an acquaintance that lived next to me in South Stadium who would start the semester at a basic second grade level. at the end of the semester he had attained a fourth grade reading level. After taking a month off for Christmas or after returning from the summer break he would have to start over again at the second grade level again. It didn't stick.

I could definitely understand those who hadn't been in school for awhile taking the ENGL 1001 and 1002 classes, but the basic 0091 and 0092 classes were the English equivalents of MATH 0091 and 0092 where you learn 1+2=3. If you don't have even that basic grasp, then college isn't the place you should be looking for an education to lead to a professional career.
