Some guy went into detail on fox about this. Said it's the militarys and secret services bells and whistles that account for the 2 billion per plane.
I think they can cut down cost, I'm just not sure how much

Sounds like Trump is just making more negotiations and lowering costs, while previous administrations just accepted the first estimate they received.

I read it was like $850 million per plane, not $2B per.
ETA: I'm referring to the unit costs and you're grouping in all of the R&D costs as well. Fair enough.

Please come out with estimates of .5 billion to 1 billion lower. Want to see some liberal spin.
Posted on 12/7/16 at 12:14 pm to slackster
The estimated costs are $3.2B

The 4 I think included the first couple of years of service ?

At least he is mindful of the government spending. Even if he lowers the bill by 250k, that's 250k he saved the tax payers.

Air Force One is one of those things I'm not worried about the price tag personally.
I don't think you can put a value on preventing your leadership from being killed or compromised during an emergency. At what number is it no longer worth it?
If shite hits the fan an attack or a hacking attempt will be conducted by the most capable and well funded foes planet earth has to offer. To put our entire nations survival at a disadvantage to save maybe 1/20,000th of our current national debt seems stupid.
There are plenty of places to curb government spending. I just don't see this as one

Yeah, many costs on large buys include O&M of the first 2 years...
I work small programs in Acquisition and the "horse blanket" (Acq/Sus plan) projects well beyond production

The government shouldn't allow private companies to fleece the American taxpayers on any contract

That seat isn't that damn important...if the POTUS has so much power why is GITMO still open...
Heck the dude that sits in the srat was talking about "no terrorist attacks in 8 years" today...

I can't say I don't agree, but damn, that's a hefty price tag

Hopefully he'll squeeze in time to addres the shite fest known as the f35.

They can say that all they want, but when you put it in perspective that an...
Aircraft Carrier has all the same military bells and whistles and it is over a 1/4 mile long and 100yds wide
And is made of over 47000 tons of steel and has 2 Nuclear Reactors...
And it only costs 13.5 billion

We have no idea what goes into this plane. This entire R&D plus production is less than the unit cost of one new zumalt class destroyer (~500ft).
^ every single one of which can be rendered completely useless if air force once is shot down or hacked/compromised.
