I don't think Desantis' window is closed. People have a short memory and his only real mistake was trying to run against Trump. He will remain a very popular governor and can serve out the rest of his 2nd term, which keeps him nationally relevant. And his gubernatorial term conveniently ends a few months before it would be time to kickoff a campaign for the 2028 GOP primary.
Desantis and Vance will be the GOP front runners in 2028.
