Where

Rural America. The flyover states. Have you ever been to the plains or the SW? It can be a LOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGG way between towns large enough to support a commercial bank. But there is a us post office. I can think of 3 places in N. Georgia where it would be a 30 mile round trip to a bank but only 12 to a post office. This idea is extremely popular in places like Kansasa and the Dakotas and west Texas and Nevada and Arizona and New Mexico and Colorado and Oregon.....in areas of these states where Republicans live.....wealthy, or at least landed, white republicans....because it can ruin a day going to town to conduct business at a bank but only a couple of hours to do so at the post office.

I understand this post was originally a dog whistle that “poors”, meaning inner city blacks and hispanics, were suppprting this idea....and they may well be....but the people I know who think it’s a good idea are honest, hard working folks who just so happen to live muuuuccccchhhhh closer to a US Post office than a commercial bank....and if you look at the history of such bank8ng it was these people it served best....

There are currently many banking options, in the private sector, that are already available for people living in rural areas. In todays world it isn't necessary for a local bank branch. Direct deposit, check cards and online banking takes the need for a local bank out of the equation. Hell most walmarts now have banking inside the store.

No way would cash at the USPS be a good idea, they would need to install vaults, hire security, train staff, etc. Those small rural PO locations would be a huge target and probably an easy score for criminals. Say it was a no cash system and they issue check cards... well that already exist in private sector..

We need to Keep the Govt out of the business sector. Banking, healthcare and etc. What's next, Govt telcoms? Govt manufacturing jobs, hell just let the Govt own and run every type of business services...hmmm that sounds like communism.

There are also many, many, many square miles of this country where there is no internet and no cell phone coverage.....but there is a post office. And very few bank robbers going to be in Tiiberion New Mexico looking to get away with a couple of thousand dollars.....with one paved road in and one paved road out that is 35 miles one way and takes about 75 minutes to travel to the nearest town of any size....also without a bank, by the way.....and there are vast regions of this nation where this is true.....

It works in every other industrialized nation on the planet. No is robbing the DHL branch in rural Germany or in Munich.....

Wait in line for 90 minutes only to discover they lost your money.

Let's do it.

Bull shite

You don’t get far from an interstate do you? Ever seen a map of Alaska? Many aquarium miles without cell coverage. I drove 4 hours in New Mexico this past weekend at 45 mph without any cell coverage. An area about 1/4 the size of Georgia. Get more than a mile away from a major road anywhere between San Antonio and LA and from Brownsville to Seattle and you’ll find that there are many square miles of the US without cell coverage...let alone data or internet

Part of the problem with student loans is that they give them to anybody who applies for one. Even if they're majoring in women studies or black studies.

I couldn’t imagine how much of a disaster this would be

No kidding, they would lose billions on that, too.

I like how he goes from payday loans to govt banks. Like there aren't several options in between.

He doesn’t understand that student loans are riskier because their is no collateral. They have higher interest rates that reflect the inherently higher risk
