Yes. More than half of the constitutional convention delegates were lawyers. About half of the declaration signers as well, with some overlap between the two obviously.
Not sure why it would surprise you that people who study the law were involved in establishing the law governing the country.

I have never agreed with the "server liability" torts. A bartender/server SHOULD NOT be responsible for monitoring and/or limiting an adult's alcohol intake. The drunk is the one who killed or injured someone. Server liability exists solely to bring another insurance policy into the settlement pool.
