People don't like being told that something the grew up trusting, or TOLD to trust, is lying to them.
Like a spouse who won't believe they're being cheated on, despite photos and notes being put right in front of them.

I realized the media were slanting the news back in the 80's. Harmless sensationalism, and worse.
Some folks will flat out lie because it's in their best interest to get people to believe them, no matter what.
It's what humans do.
