it really as bad as it looks in the news?

No. The news media is showing worst of the worst and over going how bad it is for....views and advertising bucks as always....

A few thousand people rioting in a city the size of la isn't actually all that big a situation.... For reference there's about 9k lapd on the force now.... Sherrifs department is another 9-10k officers....

I live on the coast about 10 miles southwest of DT L.A. in area called the South Bay.

And I do everything in my power to avoid going into the city. Because it's disgusting, unsafe, and overpriced.

I promise you they’re letting standards slide or cooking the statistics somewhere. Every school district does it. Every. Single. One.

Doesn’t mean a kid can’t get a good education, but it’s really up to the kid.

If he's in a good community, chances are the school is good (public schools are a reflection of the majority of families who send their kids there). It ,may well be they don't need to cook their books.

Administrators don’t answer to you. They answer to the School Board. They care more about what the Board wants more than they care about your kid.

Somewhat, but that's not the whole story. The administrators and school board answer ultimately to the Department of Education because money. The Department isn't supposed to be able to push specific programs or curricula ( 20 U.S.C. § 7907), but money talks and bullshite walks. Using things like RTTT grants or NCLB waivers they have pushed their ideas down to schools regardless of the law (see: Common Core). If they don't get the outcomes they expect (suspensions below a certain level, for example), then they are going to send investigators to find out where the school is failing (because it simply can't be the federally-created and pushed program causing the problem(s)).

I lived in far south San Jose. For years, it seemed away from all the problems. It was beautiful and safe. We raised our kids there, we had lots of friends, and we were happy.

I like in Orange County, life goes on as usual.

LA County is an absolute shite hole that can fall off the face of the earth for all I care.

But it's still bad all over. My daughter and I went up for a college visit in Chico before Covid. It was full of homeless druggies in the downtown next to the college. They were washing clothes in the fountain.

The people in the hotel told us to be careful at night time.

My husband was back in N. California around Redmond. He was shocked at how the forests were destroyed due to fires.

Not all areas are as bad as it looks, what makes California suck so much is their government, high taxes, restrictions, regulations, etc. it is one of the nicest states with an abundance of resources but socialist commies have ruined it.

I couldn't believe how bad it had gotten. Tent for homeless lining the streets. So many passed out people. Saw someone shooting up.

I decided I would never see a show there again.

Same here. And I haven't returned in nearly 25 years.
