Godspeed.

Godspeed.

There are people, and then there are Astronauts. I put them a notch above the old Texas Wildcatters. Rare breed. Lewis and Clark in pressure suits.

Did they send his body back into orbit?

I will be at Kennedy Space Center next Thursday /Friday. The drive in is named in his honor.

Rest in Peace, John Young!

I knew all of the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and first dozen or so Shuttle astronauts. John Young was my favorite, although he was one I spent the least amount of time with. I think anyone would agree that he was the funniest - he had a dead-pan humor that cannot be imitated.
I'll never forget one early training simulation where he and some other astronaut (Cernan perhaps) were practicing rendezvous. They adopted call signs of "Fud" and "Pucker" and it was hard to avoid laughing out loud listening to their interplay - a lot of dead-pan double entendre mixed into the actual performance of the training exercise.
He was a giant among men - Rest In Peace, John Young - you will be missed.

Georgia Tech man
He got grief on a Gemini flight for smuggling a sandwich into space.
The little known reason for eventually having women astronauts

I don't have the gif to express what I think a American should look like.
But I did find one of what a American should act like.
God speed John Young
