Another example of why I shouldn’t have to pay more for health insurance to offset...

..the bad choices of others.

From nvcowboyfan:

quote:

Interesting but not earth-shattering. I see type II diabetics every day. My first intervention before meds is to fix their diet by cutting way down on carbs. Every so often I'll have someone who does it and is able to get off their meds, but unfortunately the vast majority of the time they won't do it.

Had a 350 pound heifer newly diagnosed with type II - a1c of 7.5. I asked if she wanted to try a strict diet and exercise plan and outlined the type of food she should be eating (higher protein and fat and lower carbs, e.g. steak and broccoli or spinach salad with chicken, etc.) her response was "that's not real food", and "if I can't eat pizza and bread I won't do it"

Screw (not literally) that fat frick and her shitty choices.

Google Tide pod challenge. Kids are seriously eating laundry detergent as a challenge.

No shite. These kids are short bus material all the way. I think we should post other challenges like swallowing razorblades.

I’ve been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes within the last year, and the first thing I did was change my diet. It really fricking sucks having to give up so much of the foods and drinks I love, but I prefer to live and feel healthy and not have to take insulin shots for the rest of my life. I don’t get people like this bitch. I just don’t.

Until people are held accountable for their actions, things won't change. Unfortunately it's not popular among our politicians to change anything, particularly when "taking someone's healthcare away", imposing serious restrictions on the food choices allowed via purchase with food stamps/SNAP cards, or cutting corn subsidies. They have absolutely no interest in changing this. Then turn around and blame healthcare providers for "poor outcomes" when people won't do what the doctor tells them they need to do.

To be fair:

1) The actual "Challenge" is just kids biting into the pod. Not, "eating" them. So, it is no worse than when our grandmothers' washed our mouths out with soap

2) The "explosion" in coverage happened when the creative people on the innerwebs starting photoshopping Tide Pods onto plates and into advertisements as "hot pockets", etc. You know how people (girls?) like to take photos of their meals and post them? Well, people would put Tide Pods on a plate and take a pic and say "Yum. I'm about to eat this"

3) THEN, other creative people started posting their "first hand accounts" of the effects of having eaten the Tide Pods. 'I was woozy and had the runs for three days', etc.

So, mostly, it is a big goof / hoax. The most that was REALLY being done was biting one. No biggie. But, the whole idea went viral and the creative innerweb denizens fed it.
