Why have any laws that protect freedoms from the tyranny of government then? What if the authoritarian gov is on the rise and you take to the streets to protest and they use facial recognition tech to identify all the protesters and then later arrest them before assuming full authoritarian control?

Or is this just a "feeling" you have?

You know who else bases their decisions on feelings?

It's not about "feelings".

Someone wearing a mask at a protest is probable cause to suspect (not feel) that person intends to break a law during the protest.

It isn't just a coincidence that the leaders of a protest who riot and commit other violent crimes during the protest are always wearing a mask.

When a government uses facial recognition tech to identify all of the protesters before a riot occurs and if all of the protesters were ordered by the police to dispense because it is an illegal assembly and a riot occurs then all of the protesters who didn't disperse as lawfully ordered should be arrested., Therefore, that is not an authoritarian government.

When a government rounds up all of its opposition before its opposition does anything illegal and puts all of them in a concentration camp then it is an authoritarian government.

Huh?You do realize arrest are made after LE reviews CC TV and body cams and makes positive ID's from the evidence gathered...kinda hard to do if the perps are wearing masks

Do you not see how this is a slippery slope?

I’m arguing from the stance that banning masks is a 1st amendment issue. Freedom of speech.

I know what you are arguing.

Someone has the constitutional right to bear arms when they are in public.

Someone does not have the constitutional right to wear a mask when they are in public including at a protest.

Should I be able to wear a mask when I am standing outside a bank or when I enter a bank?

You know what would do this better? Arresting and prosecuting them.

And the bonus part is we don't have a law banning something just because of what might happen.

Yeah, just because people are wearing white sheets outside a jail where a black man is being held on suspicion of raping a white woman, it doesn't mean they might riot then break into the jail and lynch the black man.

As I have stated before - allowing masked mobs to roam free threatening citizens is the surest way of achieving this authoritarian govt you fear.

WTF??

I certainly can't see your logic here.

Like gun laws don't prevent gun crime, mask laws aren't going to stop people from wearing masks and committing crime.

It's just more petty government crap on top of the pile of petty government crap we already have.

And yes, banning masks in public is definitely big brother-ish.

Can a cop search my person, car, home, or cell phone without probable cause? I'd say my discussing of murder is a pretty big fricking probable cause.

He can search your car or person simply on the claim that he thought he smelled marijuana. So that gives him license to search at any time.

If the cop actually smelled marijuana coming from your car as the cop walked by your car then it is probable cause that gives the cop the legal authority to search your car.

I'll give you a personal example of when a cop abuses his authority to search your car.

One morning about 9 AM my brother and I were sitting in our car and our friend's 9 year old son was hanging out in the back seat.

My brother and I rarely drink alcohol but that morning we were celebrating something so after we drank our usual cup of coffee we bought a couple of beers and put them in our coffee cups so it would look like we were just drinking coffee.

A few minutes later, a cop walked past our car on the driver side so we were glad we had put the beer in our coffee cups.

A minute later, the cop came up to the window on the passenger side of the car, literally stuck his head inside our car and demanded we give him our coffee cups.

We obeyed his order and he took the cover off of my brother's cup then smelled what was inside of it.

Of course he smelled the beer so he gave us both citations for drinking alcohol inside of our car which is illegal to do in California.

We accepted the citations but we told the cop that we were going to fight the citations because he had no probable cause to suspect we were drinking alcohol and not coffee.

When we went to court, we argued that the cop had no probable cause to stick his head inside of our car and smell our coffee cups. The judge agreed with us and dismissed the charges.

Meh, you probably also think all those cameras that record what is going on outside of banks and stores are also big brotherish.

I wouldn't bother man. These "conservatives" are hell bent on increasing the power of the police state to soothe their feelings.

They're no better than proggies.

Just obey the law when you are in public and you will have less government intervention in your life than those who go out in public intending to break the law.

If proggies actually "peacefully" protested instead of committing violent acts then the government wouldn't have an excuse to increase "the power of the police state".

You are beginning to sound like one of those macho guys who can't handle someone in authority telling him what he can and can't do.

And you sound like a scared little baby who wets his pants and runs to daddy government whenever somebody does something you don't like.

Then turns around throws another tantrum when people advocate banning guns, all the while never seeing the utter hypocrisy of your position.

As I said, you and those like you are no better than the democrats you love to loathe.

Nope, I sound like someone with commonsense and you sound like someone with no commonsense.

Since Dumocrats don't have commonsense, that means you are the one who is no better than the Dumocrats you loathe.

Only applies if you are terrorizing, oppressing, threatening or committing violence. So don't terrorize, oppress, threaten or commit violence. Then you can go about your business all day with a mask. Same as the KKK.

I have the commonsense to believe what I see with my own eyes even if everyone else thinks what I saw doesn't exist.

Why shouldn't I care about my own rights first especially when everyone else cares about their own rights first?
