Trump could extend DACA via executive order for 6 months and the whole issue would go away. Not sure why he isn't doing that.

Mainstream Democrats have done a complete 180 on immigration.
Listen to Barbara Jordan's speeches from a generation ago on the matter, and Harry Reid from about 20 years ago. Heck, even Obama said he couldn't constitutionally act unilaterally on immigration.
Immigration is a whole nother ball game nowadays.
