This looks like a good move because it's getting unsafe drivers off the road and a lot of them are illegal to begin with. Both are good reasons, "protecting our jobs" is not.
Now here's a person who thinks America is an economic zone and not a country. It's really not a surprise we ended up where we are with so many "conservatives" that care more about cheap foreign labor than Americans or American culture.
When you focus solely on money, you end up with illegal aliens and h1bs. You end up with corporations laying off tens of thousands of Americans to give more power and wealth to our global adversaries.
Your conservative money-first principles have weakened the country, but you people still can't figure it out.

Dropping drivers sounds like something these trucking companies should be doing anyway
I noticed the same thing. The last is a cure for the first two.

the independent drivers who were responsible for building America.
Oh wow! Yet another group who were responsible for building America. Look, everyone who “built America” got paid for it. The question in front of us now is, What’s best for Americans, importing a gazillion immigrants or driving up prices of menial jobs such that low skilled Americans have decent paying jobs? Who built America has nothing to do with it; they are all dead and gone.

This is good and bad. Good for those of us in the business because with less supply, rates for freight will go up and transporters will make more money. Bad for consumers who will now see the price of goods go up due to transportation costs going up.
There's a lot more good you may have chosen to ignore:
The aholes who killed doing an illegal Uturn on the interstate, wouldn't be driving.
The lack of English proficiency will keep them off the road instead of weaving around trying to guess what 'that' sign said and what it meant.
Won't that help insurance rates as less than stellar drivers stay in Mexico and Central America? And maybe even in eastern Europe?
