Why did people buy pet rocks?
Why do people buy shampoo for $20 that contains $2 worth of water, soap and fragrance?
Why do people need canned laughter during sitcoms to tell them something funny has happened?
Why did people buy Humvees after the Gulf War?
Why do people drink SlimFast thinking it will make them lose weight?

People are stupid. Plato realized this a very long time ago.

In a deep blue area I can tell you the mindset is this:
-pro abortion. To take away any abortion rights makes women second class citizens
-pro gay rights. Celebration everywhere without a second thought about it.
-pro public education. Since it is completely immersed in left ideology these Democrats see no reason not to support it over the top.
-republicans are racist. Republicans are uneducated rural hicks. Republicans protect rich corporations.
-they do not have strong religious beliefs. Many are leftists liberal Christians which means they put every current social justice theme before scripture every time.
-in my town there are a ton of government workers. So pro public sector unions.

A person can easily grow up Democrat when they simply do the following:
- grow up in an urban setting
- avoid church
- avoid fox news and talk radio

You have an even greater chance to go Democrat if you:
- work for the government
- are gay or are close to someone who is
- attend a liberal university with a liberal major

These are what I see from a white perspective. From an ethnic minority view it can be all the above plus the pandering from the Dem party.

To them San Francisco is the center of all great things and the deep South is backwards

I really don't think most Democrat leftists have thought through the conservative lense on most issues and I don't believe in some issues conservatives have done all their homework before taking a stance. This coupled with the media and the urban rural divide is how we reach two separate worldviews that think each other is crazy

Good answers.

So you boil it down to a rural/urban thing.
That’s so crazy since Republicans were once the urban party.

This is why conservatives had better fight until their last breath to keep the electoral college.

1. Laziness. Which leads to jealousy. Which leads to delusions of deserving.

2. Ignorance. Believing when you are told that you are inferior because XYZ since birth. Then being told that you deserve more because XYZ.

3. Stupidity/mental illness. Plenty enough of both going around.

I would vote for Tulsi over Jeb Bush or Marco Rubio as an example.

quote:

Other than these 2 reasons, why would a person punch their ballot for the donkeys?

To "fight oppression and injustice"

They see the US in 2019 as a country full of victimized and ostracized groups that "face discrimination on a daily basis."

These persecuted groups primarily include LGBT+'s (excluding gay Republicans), minorities (excluding Asians), certain religious groups (mostly Muslims & definitely not Christians), & women (excluding Republicans).

Their focused victim group of choice changes quite frequently. Currently its "asylum" seekers.

And it is ultimately up to them, the morally superior and compassionate left, to vote Democrat so they can help these poor souls succeed in life. For it is quite impossible for them to progress with the greedy anti-gay/racist/anti-immigration/misogynist Republicans preventing them from doing so.

Habit. I know an older couple who pay no attention at all to politics but vote Democrat every time.

I know their values do no align in the slightest with the democrat platform, but they mindlessly pull the D lever.

They believe in government control instead of liberty. It’s a “I know better than the masses mentality, so I might as well force them to do what I want, it’ll be better for them”.
