I don't do any gaming, but wanted to get your input on an ASUS laptop.
The hinges on it were built so cheaply, that after two years it simply fell of the frikin motherboard. That is crap.
Is there a recall or anything that will help me recover any money from this.
I got a dell and it is so much more solid, last month.
I understand laptops and computer being ruined by viruses, but physically breaking with no falls? Pathetic.

Probably not. Im sure every ounce of your warranty is expired after 2 years.
I had a Dell Laptop 3 years ago that I paid $5000 for. It was basically a portable desktop stuffed into a laptop frame with basically everything possible you could fit in there. (Also, I got to deduct about 80% of its cost as a work expense so it didn't hit me in the wallet THAT bad when it was all said and done). 14 months after buying it, 2 months after the hardware warranty expired, the hard drive basically melted.
It had a quad core, 16 gigs of ram and dual nvidia cards in it and generated enough heat to melt plastic wrap if you left it near the lapop. I kept it on one of the best cooling pads I could find. It generated so much heat it actually warped aluminum brackets inside the case of the machine which caused the hard drive housing to slip just a bit. One day when I packed up the lapop to bring it to work, I heard from rattling inside when I put it in its bag. Sure enough, the entire housing for the hard drive was now free floating in the computer. Next thing I know, the existing heat from the machine had also damaged the actual hard drive when the free floating HDD was now pressed against some of the overheated guts of the system.
I called dell to express some severe disapointment and demanded to be compensated. Considering I had made over $10,000 in purchases from dell in a reasonable period of time, (business related purchases) I expected them to try to bend over backwards to help me out. They offered me free shipping on any future order I placed with them....which will never happen...ever...
Moral of the story? I doubt Asus will compensate you in any way.
I know, I know CSB....

This is probably accurate.
Dell, however, if by built solid you mean weighs more than it should for no explicable reason...then yes...its more "solid."

The Dell Latitude series is built far better than the consumer line.

yeah sounds like OP bought a cheap consumer line asus and is comparing it to a business model dell.

I just got a Latitude E6430 for work, it's been good so far.

I've had my ASUS for a few days and it doesn't feel cheap at all.

If the hinges were connected to the motherboard, that is crap

I liked my Asus, and it works even after I broke my screen.
Fwiw, if you get a cheap laptop, the chance it lasts much longer than two years isn't high anyways.

I've had Dell and Asus (of course I haven't used my Asus for gaming but I did the Dell) but I haven't had a problem and I am going on a year now. My Dell's lasted 4 years and 3 years respectively before going out on me.

I've had my ASUS laptop for over 3 years now and beat the hell out of it. Still runs fine. Posting from it now in class actually
