I'm living by myself so I am looking into purchasing a small handgun to have for emergencies (like zombies and shite )

I've never owned a handgun so don't know much about them; need some advice.

I will get the necessary permits.

Do you live in LA and what will you use the pistol for?

Yes and I will use it for peace of mind. Hopefully I never will have to use it, but I want something available in case I need it

You don't need any permits unless you have a class III weapon.

1911 .45 ACP

Not this shite again!

For real though, if you are just leaving it in your house and not taking in vehicle..look into a home defense shotgun. Much more usefule for home defense. But if you just want a small pistol get a small hammerless revilver man. Safe and reliable.

It is hard to be serious when this thread gets posted twice a week.

The correct answer is a shotgun unless you're willing to invest in range time.

Don't get a 1911. It is not a first time I've ever put a pistol in my hand type of weapon.

Lots of people like revolvers for first time gun owners. No detailed cleaning or disasemble/reassemble necessary for reliable function.

You could get a Ruger GP 100 in 357 Magnum. It is a double action revolver. Train with 38 special rounds. Load some Hydra Shocks in 357 for SHTF and be good. You could even put a Crimson Trace grip on it and have a lot more intimidation. Nothing gets someone's attention like a red dot on their chest.

Autoloaders are not too complex these days and field strip pretty easily. You will need instruction on how to do it though. Depending on your hand and finger strength, you may not be able to operate a slide release or rack a slide very well. If the semi has safety features that require a deliberate motion to engage or disengage, that is one more thing to think about for a novice.

The OB used to give better answers than that smart arse OT nonsense...and I wish it would return to that level and not continue to sink to the OT's.
