Listening to LSU games on short-wave radio

The thread on WWL reminded me of listening to a few LSU games on WRNO shortwave in the 1980s. Living in Dallas at the time, no problems getting LSU night games on WWL or on other stations carrying the game, but couldn't get day games. Enter WRNO. Being a radio ham, I just tuned them in on my receiver, and could pull in the game.
My company moved me to Yemen in 1989 - tried to get WRNO for the games, but got mostly static. Every so often they'd come in clear, but that was always just for a few minutes.

I moved to Denver from BR in 1986. I bought a shortwave radio and listened to LSU and the Saints on WRNO Worldwide as well. Some games were near impossible to catch, with the sound fading in and out. Others were so strong that it seemed they were broadcasting from next door.
With the advent of the internet and satellite TV, I don't even have shortwave any more. A few years back, I tried to find WRNO Worldwide on the shortwave radio before I got rid of it, and it seems they went to an all-Christian broadcasting format.

My wife bought be a shortwave radio 10 or so years ago basically to pick up WRNO shortwave. Then between Christmas and the new season the dadburn tower burned down and they never rebuilt the thing.

True, but you can't here it in the day time. When WRNO was up and running, you could hear day games, too.

I really wish there was a short-wave station that would carry the games. When traveling, there is not always an easy access to Internet, and the clear channel AM stations do not seem to broadcast as good of a signal as they did 30 or so years back.

Probably get better reception on XM radio than short wave to listen to the Tigers.
