always love how every thread about ztr mowers turn into the big commercial units. The guy said he has $3500 to spend. Yes, you can get an exmark for that, but it is not a commercial grade mower. Same goes for Gravely, Hustler, and all the others. All the big names have their residential series which is no different than the Deere, Toro, or Husk. Unless you are planning on buying a used commercial mower, it will not matter which one you go with. They will all perform basically the same.

I've addressed this before.
There's much more to the commercial models that would meet the eye.
Underneath everything on the mowers is what you must consider.
The residential mowers will have hydrogear integrated hydro units(absolute crap and non serviceable) vs Independant pump/wheel motors for commercial(serviceable)
Resident will have small ungreaseable bearings/bushings all over the mower and mainly in the blade spindles and will fail on the recreational models.
Blade thickness will be less, blade tip speed will be less, vacuum in the deck layout will be less.
Speed will be much slower.
The motors will not be too different and will probably be the last thing to worry about on a residential model if taken care of.
In all honesty, you should go with a hydro commercial walk behind with a sulky/velky.

Hustler or Toro would be a better choice. You could at least get a welded deck or commercial type front tires for less money. The exmark residental series would be way down the list if I only had $3500 to spend.

Bad Boy builds them like tanks! I love mine.

Gravely...
Bad Boy, but I think the extra weight is unnecessary.

Having the sulky is much easier on the body than sitting on a rough riding mower plus the walk behind will get you closer to obstacles than ride ons.
I'm just trying to get you into a commercial mower for the price you stated.

I just found out that Tractor Supply (I know, "OH THE HORROR OF A BOX STORE!") sells a model of bad boy, wonder if those are worth a damn.

I know there's a dealer in New Roads who sells them.
They are great mowers and probably the best bang for your buck.
However,as I stated earlier. I wouldn't own a mower with a hydrogear ZT transmission.
They're on pretty much every residential mower.
You can Google hydrogear ZT transmissions to see for yourself what I'm talking about.

I wish i woulda ponied up more money for a mower but i only have like 1.25 acres... the riding john deere 125 is kind of slow and shite... I'll get my 10-15 years out of it unfortunately. Coming up to 5 years next year.

For $3500, you would get a ragged out commercial ztr. If it is for residential use and will only be used once a week, a residential unit will last a long time as long as you do the routine maintainence. Those commercial units are designed to to be used alot more than once a week.

Damn, this thread made me start thinking about making my self-propelled Toro into one with one of those sulky/velky things. It can go faster than I can walk and I am pretty lazy, so it naturally seems like a good idea

my blower went to crap... looking at the stihl br350 i think... backpack blower... $379... big chunk of change but well worth it long term speaking.

I'd go with an Echo or Red Max blower. I've had my current handheld Echo weedeater and blower for 4 yrs and haven't had any problems.

Hunt. Check Northern Tools website to compare prices before making a decision on a local mower.
