Accept no substitutes.

I have heard/read that it is made by the same folks that make techron for chevron, if you wanna give that a try.

Yamaha Ring Free and Chevron Techron are exactly the same thing.

This guy gets it...

I got to ask though, what's the point? As a Yamaha 2 stroke owner, who has never used anything but whatever synthetic marine 2 stroke oil was on sale, and has many thousands of hours on the factory rotating assembly without any additive whatsoever, I don't get why everyone recommends ring free/techron.

I also run my carbs dry at the end of every trip

I was in need of more ring free and after seeing this thread went and bought some Chevron Techron.

They look different, smell different, and have different viscosities... not convinced they are exactly the same thing

They are not the same thing.

Ring free is in a class of its own.

We used to monitor cylinder temps on small motors turning 15k rpm. Ring free dropped temps AND allowed a cleaner bur.

Having said that, I think it is overkill for 99% of apps.

I run ring free every fill up, never had an issue so I will stick with it despite it being a little more expensive

Ring Free is Techron in a heavier dose. It's made at the Chevron Oronite plant south of Belle Chasse..
