Background checks for employement purposes can vary widely depending on which services are uses, but I have never turned up a CCL on people i did background checks on when I knew they had one, same for running myself through a service that does a lot of background checks in this area, no gurantee though.

Yeh in a traffic stop they will know, and technically (unless the law has changed) you are supposed to immediately tell the officer you have a CCL. However, I was always unsure if that meant, tell them if you are carrying on your person/ if you have a gun in the vehicle/ or if you have the CCL but the gun is at home. I'm guessing they want the explanation regardless of where the gun is so they know what they are dealing with. I've been stopped and told the officer and he asked me to get out and where the gun was and he checked it and ran the numbers (annoying but no big deal). I have also been stopped told them and they commended me on having it and telling them and never mentioned it again. I have also been stopped and forgotten to mention it and it never came up, so it may depend on the officer stopping you. Frick I gotta stop going 7 over.

I tell them immediately that I am a permit holder but then explain if I have any weapons (I always do) and where they are. I also ask if they have any special instructions re: the weapon(s) because I want them to be as comfortable as possible and we can deal with whatever issue caused the stop to occur.

I've told one exactly where it was located and he couldn't have cared less. Dude was cool as hell and I guess I was too as he let me off with a warning.
